Wayfinding is about connecting people to places in a meaningful way. During this workshop, we will approach wayfinding in a holistic way, focusing on the whole user experience.
Designing wayfinding always starts with understanding the users and the information needs during their visit. We will address questions like: How do people orientate themselves in an unfamiliar area? How do they search and interpret information about the possibilities the area offers them? How do they navigate from A to B, and which environmental cues do they use?
We will also focus on psychological aspects of wayfinding, like the influence of stress and how attention is attracted and focused.
And of course, many practical aspects of wayfinding design will be discussed, like how colors and pictograms can be used as communication tools to improve clarity or to overcome language barriers.
The workshop includes a lecture and a guided workshop assignment during which groups will work on a wayfinding strategy for an actual case. The results will be shared, discussed and evaluated within the whole group.
